We founded and administrated three hospitals and two hospital-affiliated nursing schools. Still open are St. Francis Hospital and Medical Center in Hartford and Saint Mary’s Hospital in Waterbury, both of which are now part of Trinity Health Of New England. Our third hospital, St. Joseph’s Stamford became part of Stamford Hospital in the mid-1990s.
St. Joseph Hospital merged with Stamford Hospital, and St. Francis and St. Mary are now run by Trinity Health of New England, which maintains the legacy of the Sisters of St. Joseph.
Hospital Mission Integration | Patient Advocates | Wellness Visitors
Sisters continue to provide a healing and compassionate presence as they sit on the boards of Trinity Health of New England, and St. Francis and St. Mary’s hospitals. Sisters continue to serve as patient advocates and wellness visitors. One Sister works at Saint Mary Hospital as executive director of mission and spiritual care. Another Sister works at St. Francis Hospital as chaplain in the Spiritual Care Department.
